1957
|
I was born in the beautiful city of Hamburg
in northern Germany. In intervals of two years, my brothers Peter
and Tim followed.

1963
|
My father was hired by a German company for an
assignment in Lagos,
Nigeria, and our whole family moved to Africa in November 1963.
Since there was no German school in Lagos back then, I started
school at the British Corona
School, where I very quickly learned English. |

1966
|
An army putsch took place in Nigeria
that eventually led to the outbreak of the Nigerian
Civil War. The country was not safe any more and we returned
to Hamburg.

1970
|
My father accepted another assignment
abroad, this time in Tehran, Iran, where I attended the German
School Tehran.
|
1971
|
We returned to Hamburg, where I
subsequently attended the Gymnasium
in Buckhorn.
|
1972
|
I entered the renowned boarding school Internatsgymnasium
Schloss Plön, where I stayed for two years.
|
1974
|
We again moved overseas, this time to Wilmington, Delaware,
USA, where I attended Thomas
McKean HighSchool for two years and subsequently studied
electrical engineering at the University
of Delaware.

1979
|
I returned to my home town of Hamburg and worked as
an application programmer for the following ten years, initially
as an employee, later as a freelancer.

1990
|
From 1990 until 2006, I worked for the
Hamburg-based software company On
Time Informatik GmbH, which sells its software products
world-wide. At On Time, I was responsible for marketing, sales and
product documentation. On this job, I used the english language on
a daily basis and utilized various Windows software packages (see Tools).

2001
|
My wife Yvonne and I got married. Early
in 2002, Yvonne moved from her home town of Singapore to join me
in Hamburg, where we have been living happily together ever since.

2004
|
I passed the examination as a certfied translator,
see Certification. Shortly
afterwards, I began working as a translator, see Books.
